Few professionals remain with a single organization for more than three decades, but Dennis Martire has built an exceptional career through long-term service and leadership with the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA).

His journey began shortly after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Government from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1986. Equipped with a strong educational foundation and a commitment to labor advocacy, Martire joined LIUNA in 1990 as an international representative in the jurisdictional disputes department.

At the time, he was also a member of Pittsburgh’s Local Union #1058, giving him firsthand insight into the experiences and concerns of union workers. This combination of practical experience and professional dedication would prove valuable throughout his career.

Martire quickly established a reputation for effective leadership and problem-solving. His early success led to advancement within LIUNA, including appointments as assistant director and later director of the Laborers’ Construction Department.

As his responsibilities grew, Martire moved into regional leadership. In 2000, he became assistant regional manager for the Mid-Atlantic Region. Just two years later, members elected him vice president and regional manager, a position he continues to hold.

Since assuming this role, Martire has helped oversee numerous initiatives designed to improve worker outcomes. These include efforts to secure fair wages, strengthen workplace representation, and expand workforce training opportunities.

One significant accomplishment involved helping support prevailing wage legislation in Montgomery County, Maryland. The initiative improved wage protections while contributing to safer and more efficient project execution.

Another major milestone came through the Route 495 Hot Lanes Project in Virginia. Under Martire’s leadership, workers voted overwhelmingly to join LIUNA Local 11, creating one of the largest union victories within Virginia’s construction industry.

In addition to labor advocacy, Martire has contributed to a wide range of boards and advisory organizations. His participation supports workforce development, transportation policy, employee benefits, and labor-management cooperation.

Training remains another important area of focus. Through LIUNA programs, workers gain access to specialized education that enhances skills, improves safety, and creates opportunities for career advancement.

Today, Dennis Martire is recognized as a respected labor leader whose career reflects dedication, consistency, and service. His progression from international representative to regional executive demonstrates the value of experience, commitment, and continuous growth.

More than 30 years after joining LIUNA, Martire continues to contribute to initiatives that strengthen opportunities for workers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. His career serves as an example of how long-term leadership can create meaningful and lasting impact.
